Last term was full of Monster madness. We read about monsters, we sang about monsters, we wrote about monsters and we even had a monsters party! We also spent some time on a piece of monster artwork which we then wrote about. Ms Dowling found a great app to use on her ipad called Show me. Some of us used it to take a picture of our artwork and then record ourselves reading our descriptions. It was our very first effort and Ms Dowling was really impressed with the clever thinking involved in working out how to use the app. The KD kids worked together to figure out the steps and were all so quiet whilst their friends were recording.
We didn’t all get to have a turn because we ran out of time but we will be using `Show me’ more next term.
What do you think of our monsters?

I think your monsters are fantastic! I teach Grade Two in a place called Greensborough in Victoria. After the holidays my grade is going to be exploring writing monster descriptions and your blog has really inspired me. Thank you very much. I was wondering what were some of the books you read about monsters?

Oh my goodness KD kids – I love your monsters. Look at those crazy monster eyes and how colourful they are! What hard work you and Ms Dowling have put in on your pictures and stories.
I can’t wait to see more of your stories next term and I hope everyone had a good holiday.

Hi Miss M,
Thanks for visiting our blog and leaving us such a nice comment to read! We are sure that your class will really love having Monster adventures this term. We read some big books – The Jigaree, The Monsters party, The Meanies, The Dark, dark wood and The Very Hungry Giant. Joy Cowley wrote some of these and we love reading her stories. We read other books like Leonardo the terrible monster and `The aliens are coming’ by Colin McNaughton. We loved the pictures in the alien book and they inspired our art work. There are so many monster books you can read!!! Have fun and let us know if you have a blog so we can visit you too.

Hi Naomi and Mrs Dowling,
We are glad that you liked our monster artworks. It was definitely fun making them. We needed a bit more time to get them all recorded though!

Thanks Ms Dowling – I will check out some of those authors!
Our blog is at: switchon.global2.vic.edu.au and hopefully we will have some monster posts soon…
We are also going to put our descriptions into the “monster project” website (this is a great resource you might like to check out for another time).
Have a great term

Ms M. – I forgot to mention our favourite stories to listen to on the ipad were `The monster at the end of this book’ and `Go away, big green monster’. We especially loved singing the `Go away, big green monster’ song!
Have fun with your monsters!
