We have been closely observing the lifecycle of a butterfly in our classroom. We started with two caterpillars but one disappeared. If you look closely you can see them both in the photograph.
We are glad that we still have one and we have enjoyed watching him grow. He was just like the very hungry caterpillar. He ate and ate and kept getting bigger all the time! Finally he went into a `j’ shape.
He hung like that for about a day and when we weren’t looking he formed into a pupa.
Now we are waiting patiently and watching carefully because we know what happens next and we are a little bit excited.
Last week we used pasta to create our own version of the lifecycle of a butterfly.
We are very good at explaining exactly what happens so just ask one of the KD kids if you have any questions about the lifecycle of a butterfly.

We love your caterpillars. We had some in our Nursery, but we think that they were different colours to your caterpillar.
Do you know what colours the butterflies will be? We had painted lady butterflies.
